January 15, 2025
HARRISBURG – Reps. Kristin Marcell (R-Bucks), Shelby Labs (R-Bucks) and Joe Hogan (R-Bucks) announce the Middle Bucks Institute of Technology (MBIT) has been awarded an $85,000 grant through the Career and Technical Education Equipment Grant program that will allow for the purchase of new welding equipment, enabling students to develop advanced skills in automation and manufacturing.
The grant is part of $4.5 million in competitive grants awarded by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to over 58 career and technical centers (CTCs) and school districts. These grants, capped at $85,000 per recipient, support the purchase or upgrade of equipment for approved career and technical education programs. The funding is focused on providing students with hands-on experience using tools aligned with industry needs, preparing them for in-demand careers while supporting employer requirements and workforce development efforts.
“Investments like these provide students with hands-on experience using cutting-edge technology,” said Marcell. “MBIT is planning on purchasing a collaborative welding robot, also called a cobot, so our students have the latest technology to be ready for the workplace of today and tomorrow.”
“This grant will help in advancing educational opportunities for MBIT students,” said Labs. “Securing this funding will allow students to learn industry-specific skills that can be applied to future employment opportunities.”
“MBIT continues to demonstrate its commitment to student success and innovation,” said Hogan. “This funding will allow the institution to remain a leader in preparing students for impactful careers, benefiting both our local economy and the Commonwealth."
